This New York outfit’s sole album, which originally appeared in 1971, is equally influenced by psych, prog and jazz. Featuring some awesome instrumental interplay, sweet vocal harmonies and searing guitar leads, it’s a superb effort that deserved to sell very much better first time around and makes its CD debut here, together with liner notes and both sides of their only 45.
This obscure hard rock quintet hailed from Levittown in New York’s Long Island. Having formed in the late 60s, they evolved a pyrotechnical stage show which was highly unusual for the time, and anticipated the glam rock era. They also toured extensively, and their early sound caused many people to assume they were English. They soon evolved their own hard-edged fusion of rock, jazz and prog, and had an especially notable guitarist in Richard Belsky. Their album featured an epic opener, All Of Them Witches, as well as some fierce guitar interplay and superb harmony vocals. A single was extracted (Done / Sins, released as RCA Victor 0588), included here as a bonus and mastered from the rare mono vinyl promo, but neither sold well. Nevertheless, they enthusiastically embarked on a tour in support of the album. In the finest tradition of pop management, however, their manager was also cheerfully ripping them off. When they returned home, they discovered that both he and their savings had disappeared. Disillusioned by his disloyalty and their album’s slow sales, they decided not to continue, leaving behind this one superb record as their testament.
